Top Gear Censored

Just started the Best of Top Gear video from tonight’s BBC2 (I kinda like the Flash-based iPlayer - it works), and it took me a few seconds to figure out what all the censoring was about.

That’s the BBC’s editing. It must be the whole thing about smoking on-screen after the July 1 smoking ban … either somebody’s come down on them like a ton of bricks, or somebody has a sense of humour, or both. Hehe. Anyway, was this on the broadcast edition or just the iPlayer edition?

It was on the broadcast edition as well, been watching it back on my DVR

It was on the broadcast edition as well. Took me a while to work out what was going on - at first it looked like a MPEG decoding glitch, but then I remembered my TV was an old analogue one.

I noticed this too. It wasnt on the original episode so I am guessing they had complaints.

In the original episode of this, James May was actually smoking a Porsche pipe (which was featured in the news). However, as their was a recent/forthcoming smoking ban which prevented people from smoking it a public place. This is what am sure was censored and why it was censored.

The ban was already in place when the episode was originally filmed and they did get into trouble at the time
